  • Two ladies stand outside of a bar to sip lunchtime drinks in Broadgate, City of London. Dressed in matching scarlet red jackets, the brunette and the blonde look relaxed in the warm mid-day sunshine during a warm spell in the capital. The nearest woman holds the remains of a gin and tonic whose lemon slice is at the bottom of her glass while her friend or colleague, with wide shoulder pads and gold chain strap for her bag draped over across a shoulder, smiles to show white teeth. In the background are other women who wear the same red clothes and these primary colours are set amongst the deep green foliage of the bar's plants. .

  • As a cyclist pedals his way along a path, a man enjoys late afternoon sunshine in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, London England. Seen from a central hill in this Victorian-designed open space, there are the terraced housing and larger tenement buildings behind that rise above the tree line in this undulating landscape. The person on the bicycle has been caught between two tree trunks as he approaches the man relaxing on the park bench and another pedestrian is seen further in the distance walking near a red car. It is scene of serenity among the urban sprawl of a capital city, where quiet places are precious and idyllic corners of greenery are highly-sought after. The Brockwell Hall Park Estate was created and landscaped in 1811. It was purchased for the people of Lambeth & Southwark and opened as a public park in 1892 by Lord Rosebery.

  • In the shelter of a large red and yellow-striped marquee tent, a middle-aged husband and wife relax in deck chairs on Brighton's East Pier, England. The wife appears to be asleep and has taken the prrecution against splinters from the pier's planks by spreading a tiny towell to rest her feet upon. She has dyed hair and large sun glasses and her bony legs are tanned and veined from much exposure to the sun. The husband is also fully-clothed with a loud checked jacket, black shoes and socks and he sits crossed-legged with a peaked cap and dark glasses with his hands across his belly. They are in a peaceful spot on this pier, a Victorian seaside structure built in 1899 for those taking the air to walk out onto the sea without getting their feet wet.

  • We are looking down from above to office and business workers who are lying down and relaxing in the grass in their lunch break at Finsbury Circus, a circular green park space in the heart of London's financial district, the City of London. Surrounding them is an art instillation of steel sheep that are incongruously grazing among the assorted people, much like they once did when London was a home to livestock en-route to market and other animals used for transport. It is a warm afternoon and in the foreground, a man wearing a dark suit has taken off his polished shoes and is lying his head on his jacket in the warm afternoon, loosening his tight tie and stretching his neck. Elsewhere, a lady is sitting eating a packed lunch with the Sun newspaper and a man a little further behind is in jeans and plimsoll shoes. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.

  • Following UK commercial driving law, a lorry driver relaxes by reading in a window at the M40 motorway services in Warwickshire, England. Leaning back while engrossed in his book, the man is sitting in sunlight on this summer's day. Outside is a poster advertising the premium ice cream brand, Magnum. A girl is shown also lounging about enjoying a Magnum on a beautiful sun-kissed beach, with the sun reflecting on a calm sea. We see Magnum's web site and their products of Classic and White chocolate snacks in their wrappers. The man is oblivious to the nature of the ad but it lends a sense of paradise versus reality, between the fantasy of youth, natural beauty and the reality of an older working man on the road.

They sit in faded pink armchairs supplied by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) that are seen in many RAF stations and airfields with the same drab blue paint on the walls. Painted by hand are circular badges with bold colours (colors) and illustrations of birds of prey, fighter-jets, swords and shields which all symbolise warfare. The three pilots are relaxed wearing their red flying suits with their sunglasses dangling in the regulation loop, they are holding a bottle of mineral water and a coffee cup.

  • Two young men dressed in office suits casually stuff their lunches during a hot lunchtime break in the Broadgate Estate in the City of London. Both with legs across knees, the lads in their 20s sit on a bench beneath a tree alongside the statue of a traditional gardener, slightly bent and equipped with hoe and wearing a wastecoat, hobnailed boots and flat cap, an iconic salt-of-the-earth workman. This scene suggests the social divisions of the working man: Of the young, educated post-war generation whose opportunities have afforded them a faster lifestyle, far removed from that of the physically-exhausted man whose life has been spent working the honest land. The English social divide is clearly represented here as the harshness of the manual labourer versus the youth of today, seen in the middle of the modern city.

  • Lunchtime sun for City of London office workers in the grounds of St. Botolph’s without Bishopsgate church. <br />
Christian worship has probably been offered at this location at the church of St. Botolph’s without Bishopsgate since Roman times. The original Saxon church, the foundations of which were discovered when the present church was erected, is first mentioned as ‘Sancti Botolfi Extra Bishopesgate’ in 1212. St. Botolph without Bishopsgate may have survived the Great Fire of London unscathed, and only lost one window in the Second World War, but on 24 April 1993 was one of the many buildings to be damaged by an IRA bomb.

Sunlight is quite high in the sky and the shadows of a vine that is growing across the roof of the building's terrace, is seen on the wall behind the woman. She is seated reading a magazine in a garden chair and is surrounded by colourful flowers in their prime. Well-painted original victorian railings that act as a sort of ballustrade are in front of the female. In the window is a scene of typical seaside Englishness. Serviettes are splayed out on a table along with breakfast or dinner items awaiting guests at the next meal.

The manual labourer wears blue overalls, yellow gloves and keys in his back pocket while the man in a wastecoat and smart trousers and polished slip-on shoes appears to be fast asleep, his fingers across his chest. This scene suggests the social divisions of the working man: Of the young, educated post-war generation whose opportunities have afforded them a faster lifestyle, far removed from that of the physically-demanding job of a man whose life has been spent cleaning and sweeping. English social differences is clearly represented here as the harshness of the manual labourer versus a lazy youth of today, seen in the middle of the modern city.

  • man is lying down on the steps of Royal Exchange opposite the Bank of England in the City of London, to take a nap under a mid-day sun in the heart of the capital's financial district. A red double-decker Routemaster bus has stopped in a queue of traffic opposite with an advert for London buses saying 'We've got to get this city to work' but with tattoos on his arms and his forehead and wearing heavy army-style boots, he is clearly not on his way to a job and therefore out-of-place in this busy part of London. With arms folded and head resting on an unseasonal coat, the man is asleep and going nowhere.

  • In the shadow of 1 Canada Square, the iconic Canary Wharf tower in London's Docklands stands as an icon for Thatcherite Britain when the good times, prosperity and economic upturns seemed unshakeable. Four work colleagues stand under a hot lunchtime sun during a summer heatwave. In their shirtsleeves the men each hold pints of refreshing lager, all having removed their dark jackets to enjoy the company of a flirtatious female who appears to be flirting with an older male companion. The sky is blue and the five are care-free to any future economic uncertainty.

  • Grabbing a quiet few moments in an otherwise busy environment, two people lie in long grass near the tall Canary Wharf tower structure a mile away in the background at Dockland's area of East London. On the grassy bank at Mudchute, a city farm on London's Isle of Dogs, England, the two people have been joined on this war summer afternoon by a small goat who is making its way along, munching at the lush vegetation. It is a seemingly rural location but is, in fact, an area of inner-city London, close to major construction projects, transforming Docklands into a major centre for finance and new housing.

  • A holy Sadhu man attracts a crowd on the Maidan in central Calcutta, India. Near some ballustrades built by the British during the last years of the Raj, the man is leaning forward on his knees and his head is buried in gravel. Practicing Tapas or Niyamas, is one form of Austerity that holy men like this perform to cleanse themselves of bad thoughts. It is a conservation of energy; an increase of power in the system by sense control; a process of positive-thought, self-imposed hardships and inner-strength - all to gain a higher being for oneself. They might stand in cold water in winter, stand on or bury their heads in earth. Niyamas also breeds non-violence, truthfullness, non-stealing, moderation, non-possessiveness, purity, contentment, discipline, study and surrender.

  • An aerial view of a completely uninhabited, deserted island seen from a regional aircraft passing overhead atolls and islands, an hour's flying time north of Malé, capital of the Indian Ocean Republic of the Maldives. We see the perfectly clear blue sea surrounding a tiny flat island of white coral beach sand, ringing tropical vegetation and scrub that is in jeopardy to rising sea levels as global warming makes sea level locations like this vulnerable to flooding. The Maldives comprise of twenty-six atolls, featuring 1,192 coral islands of which 80 are holiday resorts with 200 inhabited by indigenous communities. This Islamic nation of 298 sq km (115 sq miles), lie seven hundred kilometres (435 miles) south-west of Sri Lanka..
