  • A lady insurance underwriter or broker stands on the floor at Lloyds of London's Richard Rogers headquarters building. She reads pages from iwhat is known as the Loss Book, a centuries-old tradition. Since the time of Edward Lloyd's Coffee House in the seventeenth century, the Loss Book has been the focal point for gathering intelligence and keeping a record of the commercial ships lost to the mighty oceans. Today, a feature of visits to Lloyd's is a look at the famous Loss Book and an example of its counterpart from 100 years earlier. The Lloyds market began around 1688 and is today the world's leading insurance market providing specialist insurance services to businesses in over 200 countries and territories.

  • Days after the terrorist attacks on America in September 2001, we see front grill and bonnet (hood) paintwork of a parked US Government Ford car in Greenwich Village, scratched by scraped dirt and covered in concrete dust and grit that has been blown from nearby collapsed buildings at Ground Zero. • At dawn, a week after the September 11th attacks in New York and in Washington DC, we see the haunted figures of war veterans looking up at the names of dead comrades of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Constitution Gardens, Washington DC where 58,195 names of casualties are recorded on its polished wall. In the foreground are some of those mens' identities whose average age was 19 in the sixties and seventies. A hazy sun rises over the point of the Washington Memorial at a time when the nation was mourning those killed in the New York and Washington attacks, when the military was about to mobilise once again with many American lives lost. The Vietnam war however, remains a low-point in the nation's history and the old men who survived return to trace their buddies which helps them deal with the traumatic loss of their friends and their own youth. .

On her lap is the organic Soil Association's magazine Living Earth. Perhaps the woman is on her way to a family funeral and is flying from T5 on this sad flight. Amid the otherwise bustling international airport, the woman seeks solace and tries to sleep before her check-in zone opens. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009). .
