  • Standing late at night in the doorway of a Soho nightclub in Old Compton Street, London England, a bouncer provides security for his employer. Otherwise known as doormen or door supervisers, these usually hardened men offer a deterrent for anyone causing trouble inside ot out of licensed bars and clubs such as this. Lit from overhead spotlights, he looks menacing and capable of street violence - enough to urge troublemakers to move on quick. reflected in the glass is Ed's Diner a well-known eaterie in this street. Soho is known as a rather seedy but vibrant area of London's West End and late-night social disorder fuelled by excessive alcohol is pretty much normal.

The derelict slate mines around Blaenau Ffestiniog in north Wales were awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2021. The industry’s heyday was the 1890s when the Welsh slate industry employed approximately 17,000 workers, producing almost 500,000 tonnes of slate a year, around a third of all roofing slate used in the world in the late 19th century. Only 10% of slate was ever of good enough quality and the surrounding mountains now have slate waste and the ruined remains of machinery, workshops and shelters have changed the landscape for square miles.

In 2021, the derelict slate mines around Blaenau Ffestiniog in north Wales were awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. Welsh slate was used on buildings across the globe including Westminster Hall in London’s Houses of Parliament. In 1830, half the buildings in New York had roofs made of Welsh slate. • There is golden light across this narrow stretch of river, yellow flowers are on the bank and in late golden sunlight, two boys paddle upstream in their Indian canoe on the River Thames near the village of Shillingford, England. Lazily they plunge their paddles into the calm, clear blue waters of this majestic river whose source rises in deepest Gloucestershire to its industrial estuary in the English Channel 215 miles (346 km) away. But here in Oxfordshire, it is an idyllic scene of innocent childhood on calm rural waters in a beautiful and tranquil setting, on an English summer afternoon. The boys don't appear to be wearing life vests nor safety equipment but propel their craft forwards against the current with confidence.

  • Beyond Chinese TV media images, a red sun sinks behind late cloud in the west, a glowing red sky illuminates Hong Kong's harbour, this scene is symbolic of the decline of empire, the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) two years after this picture was taken, often referred to as "The Handover" on June 30, 1997. Midnight of that day signified the end of British rule and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China. From this famous ferry terminal that protrudes out into the busy waters of this colony's harbour from the Kowloon side of the territory. Hong Kong was once known as 'fragrant harbour' (or Heung Keung) because of the smell of transported sandal wood in the days before China ceded its territory to the British for 155 years until the 1997 deadline.

An older girl has her mouth wide open while her younger brother is seen in profile but both are peacefully unaware that they have arrived home after a long drive fro the countryside to the inner-city. From a personal documentary project entitled "Next of Kin" about the photographer's two children's early years spent in parallel universes. Model released.

  • It is night-time on Blackpool's Golden Mile, the seaside resort in Lancashire, England. Like an English Las Vegas the neon lights glow to entice the holidaymaker inside where slot machines, games and rides await visitors to lose their vacation money. The Golden Mile is the name given to the stretch of Promenade between the North and South piers. It emerged in the late 19th Century, when small-time fairground operators, fortune-tellers, phrenologists and oyster bars set up in the front gardens of boarding houses, This northern seaside resort in the north-west of England is diverse in its transient holiday population whose behaviour can be routinely odd. Blackpool is the largest resort in the north of England and visited traditionally by working people from industrial towns and cities during the industrial revolution.

Clutching a small bunch of daisies, a five year-old girl gazes at one of her flowers as if held in a trance. Located near Coxwold and Oldstead and on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, Byland Abbey was described in the late 12th century as one of the shining lights of northern monasticism. The abbey rose to be one of the largest of the Savigniac order in Britain and the remains of the buildings, particularly the great church, are significant in the development of northern architecture in the second half of the 12th century. Sacked by a Scots army after the battle of Shaws Moor in 1322, it was destroyed in the Dissolution of abbeys and monasteries by Henry VIII in 1538; the buildings then became ruinous and a source of building stone for local people.

The Volkswagen Type 2, known officially, depending on body type as the Transporter, Kombi and Microbus, and informally as the Bus (US) or Camper (UK), is a panel van introduced in 1950 by German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model – following and initially deriving from Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 (Beetle), it was given the factory designation Type 2.
