  • An aerial landscape view of a railway network whose tracks and rails converge on a station in central London. Three trains filled with commuters all make their way into this unseen railway hub. The route curls away into the distance, slicing its way through the capital. London Rail is a directorate of Transport for London (TFL), involved in the relationship with the National Rail network within London, UK. It manages non-tube rail systems in London. Railways started to change the landscape of London itself, followed by its suburbs in the mid to late 19th century when streets and neighbourhoods were cut in half by the new infrastructure.

  • Near the junction of the 400 to Buckhead, the 401 highway divides and splits during afternoon rush-hour traffic which slows and builds up so that vehicles and cars back-up as they head home and out of Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The inner median is coned off during some construction work which slows the traffic even more. Crossing the 5-lane road comes a train of Atlanta's own mass-transit system, the MARTA network and it approaches the overpass with care. We see the infrastructure of a modern metropolis at the busiest time of day when the exodus to get home puts the roads and feeder lanes under the most pressure. Fortunately, the weather is fine with good visibility making drivers' journeys a little shorter and more tolerable but it shows too America's habit and dependency on car culture.

  • Alongside the A5 highway, an industrial landscape is illuminated in light from roadside street-lighting. Reeds are in the foreground in front of a giant generic warehouse that glows from its own territory. This 365 acre site off Junction 18 of the M1 motorway is a hub for road, rail and service infrastructure, some 2.3m sq.ft. of distribution and manufacturing floorspace had been constructed by 2004 and occupiers including Tesco?s, Tibbett & Britten plc, Ingram Micro, Royal Mail, the W.H. • Seen from a low angle at the side of the track, near where grass and daisies grow, a speeding Eurostar TGV train hurtles towards the viewer, blurring as it comes towards us. This is the Kent countryside, otherwise known as the fertile Garden of England, and the route for high-speed trains that ply back and forth between western Europe and London St Pancras. This international passenger service was made possible by the completion of the Channel Tunnel in 1994 operating eighteen-carriage Class 373 trains which run at up to 300 kilometres per hour (186 mph) on a network of high-speed lines. Eurostar is operated by the national railway companies of France and Belguim, SNCF and SNCB, and by Eurostar (UK) Ltd (EUKL), a subsidiary of London and Continental Railways (LCR) which in turn also owns the high-speed infrastructure and stations on the British side.

  • Moving fast past a farmhouse building on a busy UK A road, unseen traffic leaves its light trails on an otherwise dark winter night near the giant DIRFT warehouse logistics park in Daventry, Northamptonshire England. Some rooms are lit in this remote residence which show signs of occupation. Red tail lights from cars, lorries and trucks streak by with tall traces of container traffic leaves light on the picture, diagonally leaving their mark. It is a very busy highway on which to own a home but this infrastructure is a vital route that keeps Britain's logistics moving across the country 24/7.

The outer barrier of the Olympic Park is 2.5 sq km and circles a huge area of the borough of Stratford in the borough of Newham. • From a slightly raised viewpoint we are looking up Bishopsgate Street in the oldest area of Britain's capital, the Square Mile in the City of London. As traffic is at a standstill when lights are red, pedestrians to and fro across the scene, blurring as they negotiate crossings and traffic islands mid-way across this old Roman and medieval highway that travels north-south in what is now the city's financial district. Buses can be seen in the far distance too adding to the general bustle of a busy metropolis. The highway tends to zigzag into the distance and with the foreshortening of a long lens, appears to have a compressed perspective.

Food orders are conveyed with sorter systems that group products together, ordering them to favour the layout of specific stores, optimising how the shelves are stacked..

  • Following UK commercial driving law, a lorry driver relaxes by reading in a window at the M40 motorway services in Warwickshire, England. Leaning back while engrossed in his book, the man is sitting in sunlight on this summer's day. Outside is a poster advertising the premium ice cream brand, Magnum. A girl is shown also lounging about enjoying a Magnum on a beautiful sun-kissed beach, with the sun reflecting on a calm sea. We see Magnum's web site and their products of Classic and White chocolate snacks in their wrappers. The man is oblivious to the nature of the ad but it lends a sense of paradise versus reality, between the fantasy of youth, natural beauty and the reality of an older working man on the road.

  • An Evening Standard newspaper headline announces the fury of London commuters' at a 3-day underground tube strike in September 2007. This is Victoria mainline station during a summer heatwave. It's a transport hub for tube lines, buses and overground train routes and we also see a stressed and exasperated-looking commuter walking past this kiosk with a Starbucks coffee container in hand, needing to get into work rather than take public transport. As a result of the industrial action, the busses are full so the quickest way of reaching one's destination is to walk.
