  • Children roll around the inside of Water Balls at the south London Lambeth Country Fair. A water ball is a large inflatable sphere that allows a person to walk across a water surface. The water ball is similar to a zorb (rolling downhill in an orb, generally made of transparent plastic), but this has only one layer and is designed for water travel rather than downhill rolling. The giant ball is usually two metres in diameter and has a zippered entrance to allow for easy entry and exit. It stores flat and weighs 15 kilograms. The best water balls are constructed from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) 0.6-0.7mm thick. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_ball

  • On a busy Summer weekend, families enjoy the old Tarr Steps Clapper Bridge over the River Barle in Exmoor National Park, Devon, England. Crossing on the huge stone prehistoric slabs which weigh up to 5 tons apiece, children play with fishing nets, walk dogs and sit enjoying the view below of others who mess about in a small inflatable dinghy on the flowing stream. Located in a National Nature Reserve about 2.5 miles (4 km) south east of Withypool and 4 miles (6 km) north west of Dulverton, this spot is a favourite tourist place in South-West England. This typical clapper bridge construction may date to around 1000 BC. It is 180 feet (55 m) long and has 17 spans and designated by English Heritage as a grade I listed building.

  • A landscape of Bleriot Plage near Calais on the northern French coast, where the first-ever international flight between France and the southern English coast took place by the French aviator Louis Bleriot on 25th July 1909. He flew from the beach at Sangatte, to the cliffs at Dover to claim the prize offered by the Daily Mail. Nowadays, French families use the sand and dunes as a holiday beach destination using inflatable dinghies to paddle in the surf. The Bleriot crossing took 37 minutes in his aeroplane, Blériot XI, built in collaboration with Raymond Saulnier. It was powered by a 3 cylinder 25 horsepower (19 kW) engine.

  • Docked after night-time interceptions of migrant inflatables from the French coast via the English Channel is the UK Border Force's cutter HMC Vigilant in Ramsgate Harbour, on 8th January 2019, in Ramsgate, Kent, England. The Port of Ramsgate has been identified as a 'Brexit Port' by the government of Prime Minister Theresa May, currently negotiating the UK's exit from the EU. Britain's Department of Transport has awarded to an unproven shipping company, Seaborne Freight, to provide run roll-on roll-off ferry services to the road haulage industry between Ostend and the Kent port - in the event of more likely No Deal Brexit. In the EU referendum of 2016, people in Kent voted strongly in favour of leaving the European Union with 59% voting to leave and 41% to remain.

  • Flight Lieutenant Dan Simmons of the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team, zips up his g-pants before climbing into his Hawk jet. G-pants counterac the effects of high gravity stresses that jet-fighters impose on the human body, automatically inflating and squeezing blood back to the thorax and head when blood drains towards the legs. As he attaches the zipper, he rests his straight right leg on a retractable step which helps him and his ground crew engineers to gain access to the cockpit, high above the ground. Hanging from another part of his airplane is his life-vest which he will wear around his neck, whilst in flight. Flight Lieutenant Simmons wears heavy-duty black boots which are regulation footwear for flying personnel and dressed in his red flying suit that is famous around the world.

  • A helium-filled Welcome Home balloon floats in the air in Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 arrivals hall. Three families have gathered to meet their respective sons who have been travelling around the world during their university gap year sabbatical trip of a lifetime. Floating upwards, the balloon is brightly coloured amid the hectic concourse where other relatives greet their loved-ones after months away from home on their adventures. This is a tradition practised across the world's airports where families are separated by the need to travel or work in other countries and the emotion of meeting again after long absences is always hard. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009).

  • A hot air balloon is partially inflated before flight at Longleat Estate, Warminster, England. Using firstly cold air from a gas-powered fan, before its propane burners are used for final inflation, one of the ground crew assists in the process by pulling at the fragile synthetic material so that the volume within the whole 'envelope' can fill without damage and it's spectrum arc of colours are becoming rainbow-like. The hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology. The first manned flight was made by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d'Arlandes in a balloon created by the Montgolfier brothers in 1783. In today's sport balloons the envelope is generally made from nylon fabric and the mouth of the balloon (closest to the burner flame) is made from fire resistant material such as Nomex.
