  • Seen from behind as they stop at dotted give-way lines on this empty road junction, we see a strange perspective of deserted housing and empty roads, Jen West and her elderly wheelchair-bound mother Margaret - both residents of the experimental community village of Poundbury, Dorset, England. As if they are pedestrians about cross a busy highway, it is an incongruous scene of irony. Poundbury is the visionary model village that Charles, Prince of Wales sought to develop in 1993 as a successful and pioneering town near Dorchester, built on land owned by his own Duchy of Cornwall, challenging otherwise poor post-war trends in town planning and to some extent following the New Urbanism concept from the US except that the design influences are European.

  • An urban tree is protected from a construction site by blue hoarding panels in the City of London. The landscape looks both incongruous and disturbing to the eye with the blue hoarding and its red safety light that glows in the daylight. The carefully planted tree continues to grow in situ on a pavement split between paving stones and a worn grass verge in the heart of the capital's financial district otherwise known as the Square Mile, after its circling Roman wall..

  • An actor plays the part of an office worker, toiling away at a desk-top PC while outside in the courtyard of the Z33 art gallery in Hasselt, Limburg Belgium. The lady artist sits typing at an imaginary work station with jackets hanging on a coat stand and with her area marked out in sand on the gravel. This incongruous scene is played out during the gallery's 'Werk Nu' (Work Now) exhibition that reflected upon the concept and meaning of 'work' in our present society, with issues such as flexibility, mobility, motivation, significance, and the work-life balance are dealt with. The art works in 'Work Now' are direct or ambiguous, whimsical.

  • A French Dassault-Breguet Mirage military jet interceptor/fighter stands on a pedestal in the Place de la Concorde, Paris during an aviation display weekend along the Champs Elysées. Passers-by seem oblivious to this celebration of French aviation as they walk through the Parisian square, the scene of public executions during the revolution. The Mirage seems to be climbing off its platform and up into the cloudless summer afternoon sky as a young child sits on top of his father's shoulders and passengers in a city bus seem trapped behind the windows. Its is a scene of incongruous moments, a surreal appearance of frightening military technology amid the calm of a public place. Picture from the 'Plane Pictures' project, a celebration of aviation aesthetics and flying culture, 100 years after the Wright brothers first 12 seconds/120 feet powered flight at Kitty Hawk,1903. .

  • As afternoon light fades, we see an incongruous landscape of false forest trees amid an industrial airport lot. A supporting pillar from the hotel chain, Sofitel, a 605 bedroom, 27 suite and 45 meeting room accommodation and business hub, is situated at the Heathrow Airport 's Terminal 5 hotel. The woodland screen is hiding a wasteland of undeveloped land that may soon be another airport hotel but at the moment, it makes for a strange rural/urban scene where the viewer is not sure where reality stops and fiction takes over. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009). .

  • Construction work by McAlpine makes for an incongruous landscape in Victoria Street, London. Sir Robert McAlpine is a leading UK building and civil engineering company. It carries out engineering and construction for the oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, nuclear, pharmaceutical, defence, chemical, water and mining industries. The company was founded in 1869 by Sir Robert McAlpine, who was known as "Concrete Bob".

  • A couple of mixed-race have put their heads through the apertures made in a painting that depicts Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, on the Palace Pier at Brighton, on the south coast of England. The faces peep through this traditional attraction that few can resist, even in the 21st century. The man's face looks disturbingly incongruous in the place where the Prince Consort's white German character would be. There is a message here of a changing multi-cultural British society where these friends or partners are from other ethnic backgrounds and where mixed-marriages are now commonplace, as opposed to the Victorian era when attitudes to racism and race-relations were vastly different.

  • The solitary figure of a man stands on the roof of an office building in downtown Atlanta during a victory parade for the city's baseball team. The man may be a security guard, keeping watch over the streets below as crowds gather to honour the Atlanta Braves Baseball team, after their 1995 World Series win. The figure is in his manmade environment and the high walls and windows of the buildings that make up this metropolis dwarf this tiny human who in the scale and perspective of a modern city looks incongruous, isolated and insignificant.

  • A dystopian landscape of construction materials and an inspirational view above the city - seen through a wire and netting street fence. Lettering on the hoarding tells us the scene below is inspirational, a capital from a new perspective. But the mess of aggregates and soil, tools and rubble tell a different story: an incongruous landscape of an idealised city and the reality of unfinished work.

  • We are looking down from above to office and business workers who are lying down and relaxing in the grass in their lunch break at Finsbury Circus, a circular green park space in the heart of London's financial district, the City of London. Surrounding them is an art instillation of steel sheep that are incongruously grazing among the assorted people, much like they once did when London was a home to livestock en-route to market and other animals used for transport. It is a warm afternoon and in the foreground, a man wearing a dark suit has taken off his polished shoes and is lying his head on his jacket in the warm afternoon, loosening his tight tie and stretching his neck. Elsewhere, a lady is sitting eating a packed lunch with the Sun newspaper and a man a little further behind is in jeans and plimsoll shoes. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.

  • Set incongruously next to London's old Leadenhall Market we see the floodlit exterior of British architect Sir Richard Rogers' Lloyds building, home to the post-modern architecture of the insurance underwriters insurance institution Lloyd's of London which is located at number 1, Lime Street, in the heart of the City of London. Lloyd's is a British insurance market. It serves as a meeting place where multiple financial backers or "members", whether individuals (traditionally known as "Names") or corporations, come together to pool and spread risk.
