  • An anonymous youth sprays graffiti from an aerosol spraycan onto a west London wall. .Viewed from a low angle, an unidentified youth is seen spraying graffiti art on to a wall in the Notting Hill area of West London, England. We see his partially-obscured face lit from behind with a strong amount of flash which throws a well-defined shadow of his hand holding a spray can. It is a chilly night and the boy's breath is seen against the frosty night air. His graffiti art has taken him some hours to spray on this white wall and shows a glossy finish. The picture is anonymous because of the young man's face is unseen and generic, because we don't see where the wall might be located.

  • The graffiti left on walls inside the Reichstag building by Soviet soldiers after their battles in the German capital at the end of the second world war. The building, having never been fully repaired since the fire, was damaged by air raids. During the Battle of Berlin in 1945, it became one of the central targets for the Red Army to capture due to its perceived symbolic significance. Today, visitors to the building can still see Soviet graffiti on smoky walls inside as well as on part of the roof, which was preserved during the reconstructions after reunification.

  • Where young Germans once risked their lives, graffiti and tags now adorn the concrete surfaces of original sections of the Berlin wall at the East Side Gallery on Muhlenstrasse, Berlin. The site is the former border between Communist East and West Berlin during the Cold War. The Berlin Wall was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany) starting on 13 August 1961, that completely cut off (by land) West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin. The Eastern Bloc claimed that the wall was erected to protect its population from fascist elements conspiring to prevent the "will of the people" in building a socialist state in East Germany. In practice, the Wall served to prevent the massive emigration and defection that marked Germany and the communist Eastern Bloc during the post-World War II period.

The names of past visitors are etched on the medieval plaster and beyond is a rower who sculls upstream on the river towards the boating club that lies just beyond the bridge at the water's edge. The Ponte Vecchio ("Old Bridge") is a Medieval bridge over the Arno River, in Florence, Italy, noted for still having shops built along it, as was once common. Butchers initially occupied the shops; the present tenants are jewellers, art dealers and souvenir sellers. It has been described as Europe's oldest wholly-stone, closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge. To enforce the prestige of the bridge, in 1593 the Medici Grand Dukes prohibited butchers from selling there; their place was immediately taken by several gold merchants.

This message of resistance by the underdogs of a moral majority appears on a part of wasteland in the Yorkshire city of Bradford, where the residents of an estate near the city centre have been forcibly removed to make space for a new development. Before their migration, the anonymous, downtrodden people were desperate enough to write this piece of anarchical philosophy that might be seen as a metaphor for a class war against the establishment by The People; the working classes otherwise known in Marxist ideology, as the Proletariat - a kind of thought from the (Orwellian) novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, by George Orwell.
