  • An out of focus post with a light bulb attached, shines in the bright daylight with the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Cocoa beach is on Florida's so-called Space Coast, a resort of beaches, clubs, seafood restaurants and motels that came to life during the 1960s due to America's space program. NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center is located approximately 15 miles away. The Atlantic Ocean is flat calm in settled weather and the horizon is clear and well-defined with a ship just visible on the right side. Focus is on the sea rather than the post and the light bulb which look like a surreal addition to the landscape. Cocoa Beach served as a playground for many of the astronauts and NASA space industry workers and contractors during the heyday of the space race. After manned space flights, the town held astronaut parades. Before there was a "Silicon Valley," Cocoa Beach and other surrounding towns were full of the best and brightest technical minds around.

  • Businessmen sip morning coffee in one of the many cafes in the financial district of the capital called the Square Mile, also the oldest area of London named by the Romans. Five gentlemen wearing suits drink or talk in the window of this bar near the Bank of England. Coffee meeting places were the first calling-in place during the 18th century when the news and gossip of the day were discussed at great length and where deals were done and businesses started, included newspapers and the traditional British pub.

A lady also sleeps with head propped up on an elbow with empty pint glasses on the bench. • Homeless men sleep beneath the statue of US President George Washington in London's Trafalgar Square. The sleeping males are seen stretched across the lawn outside the National Gallery as America's first president looks important and statesmanlike, a symbol of pioneering freedom and success whereas the men are symptomatic of poverty and failure. The George Washington is a replica of a work by Jean-Antoine Houdon.
