  • The morning after Saturday night crowds of young peoples' nightlife beach parties, their litter and rubbish from the night before stretches across the coastal paths and shingle, a local volunteer picks up and bags up piles of litter along the sea wall, on 19th July 2020, in Whitstable, Kent, England. The volunteers and a council cleaner come every morning to clean-up the mess left by others which, they say, has got worse during the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown and now, the slow easing of health guidelines.

  • The clean-up begins the morning after the Poll Tax riot, on 1st April 1990, in Charing Cross Road, London, England. Angry crowds, demonstrating against Margaret Thatcher's local authority tax, stormed the Whitehall area and then London's West End, setting fire to a construction site and cars, looting stores up Charing Cross Road and St Martin's Lane. The anti-poll tax rally in central London erupted into the worst riots seen in the city for a century.

  • A pile of assorted ropes and fibrous cord and fishing pots await removal from the coastal landscape, having been collected by volunteers from a beach on Holy Island, on 27th September 2017, on Lindisfarne Island, Northumberland, England. The amount of rubbish found dumped on UK beaches rose by a third last year, according to a new report. More than 8,000 plastic bottles were collected by the Marine Conservation Society’s annual beach clean-up at seaside locations from Orkney to the Channel Islands on one weekend in September 2016. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, also known simply as Holy Island, is an island off the northeast coast of England. Holy Island has a recorded history from the 6th century AD; it was an important centre of Celtic and Anglo-saxon Christianity. After the Viking invasions and the Norman conquest of England, a priory was reestablished.

'Scrubbers' then appeared to metaphorically clean-up the mess left on the pavement before City of London Police officers arrived to re-open the street during this, the second lockdown during the Coronavirus pandemic.
