  • BBC warm-up man Miles Crawford holds up two boards prompting the audience watching the National Lottery Show to Clap or Laugh in BBC Television Centre in West London, England. Lit by studio lighting with a universe of stars in the background, Crawford is a respected and versatile stand-up comic and TV personality in his own right working for the BBC, Sky, Channel 4 and ITV. Ironically, warm-ups perform a preliminary act before a TV show is recorded to literally warm an audience into non-spontaneous laughter to help a comedy's atmosphere - albeit with the help of prompt signs like these. The first National Lottery Live show was at 19:00 on Saturday 19 November 1994.

  • Opera-lovers await the start of a rehearsal of the first socially-distanced performance by English National Opera (ENO) in the London Coliseum which has remained closed throughout the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown, on 24th October 2020, in London, England. Musicians and singers on stage are separated appropriate to government restrictions and audience members are seated with same household groups. The Marriage of Figaro was ENO's last show on 14th March, and the Coliseum has stayed closed until now. The UK’s theatre ticket revenue contributes £1.28bn to the nation’s economy, in which there are 290,000 jobs (70% are at risk) so the government has announced a financial rescue package for the Arts industry, a £1.15bn support for cultural organisations in England that is made up of £880m in grants and £270m of repayable loans. The 2,395-seat Coliseum (1904) is a Baroque revival (Wrenaissance) style theatre, built as one of West End's largest and most luxurious variety theatres.00

  • A young magician performs a levitation trick using a lady assistant, in front of a crowd in Covent Garden's Piazza, London. Saying abracadabra or a similar explanation to wow his surrounding audience, the man stands beneath the raised woman, lying horizontally in mid-air. Levitation (from Latin levitas "lightness") is the process by which an object is suspended by a physical force against gravity, in a stable position without solid physical contact.

  • A Japanese buyer watches a male model walk the catwalk of couturier Margaret Howell's Fashion Week show rehearsal in the company's retail flagship and design studio at 34 Wigmore Street, Central London England. Making notes on his clipboard as he looks at the striding man, the audience has yet to arrive so we see a largely empty scene that usually serves as a shop. Howell is one of Britain's more understated of couture brands alongside more flamboyant personalities. Howell admits to being "inspired by the methods by which something is made .. enjoying the tactile quality of natural fabrics such as tweeds, linen and cotton in a relaxed, natural and lived in look."

The hall is packed and his disciples listen and watch intently and obediently to watch their Leader speak like a Big Brother character, who ernestly and sincerely talks down to them despite being dressed casually for such a large event. Each employee will attend this brainstorming fair where later, motivational pep-talks from executives, outside speakers and gurus will talk to large groups of personnel so their presence on this day away from the office is vital for the year's business ahead.

Set in leafy grounds beside Hampstead Heath, these grounds were remodelled by Robert Adam between 1764 and 1779. English Heritage host Summer concerts here and families and music fans spend war summer evenings listening to opera, classical or series of themed performances by visiting artists and groups. Here is also the source of one of London's lost rivers, The Fleet which rises here and flows downhill into the city where it becomes part of the sewer system, emerging in the Thames at Blackfriars. • Billy Graham preaches with sincere, confidently open hands to British Christians during Mission 89, a series of evangelical revival rallies in London, England. Graham is an Evangelical Christian who has been a spiritual adviser to several U.S. presidents including George W Bush with Time Magazine calling him ".. the nation's spiritual counselor." He is number seven on Gallup's list of admired people for the 20th century and member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Here he is seen towering on a giant screen over the small heads of his UK congregation who are sitting passively listening to the message of this great man of God. The scale of his personality and presence above them makes this a powerful image of leadership and of followers.
