  • Lingerie-clad models stage a protest by the animal rights organisation, Peta against the suffering of animals, on 17th Febriary 2017, in London, England, United Kingdom. The group stripped off into matching green underwear and crocodile masks before posing outside the show's main venue on the Strand in central London. Peta is campaigning against the use of exotic animal skins in the fashion industry. It follows an investigation of crocodile farms which found animals were confined to pits and sometimes still alive when their skin was torn off, Peta said. London Fashion Week is a clothing trade show held in London twice each year, in February and September. It is one of the "Big Four" fashion weeks, along with the New York, Milan and Paris. The fashion sector plays a significant role in the UK economy with London Fashion Week alone estimated to rake in £269 million each season. The six-day industry event allows designers to show their collections to buyers, journalists and celebrities and also maintains the city’s status as a top fashion capital. • A group of red uniformed meat market traders manhandling joints of pork from the back of a meat wagon at Macau's main meat market, on the Rua Sul do Mercado de Sao Domingos, just off the Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, in Central Macau. The men have on hooded red tunics that hide the bloodstains of dead animal carcasses, a very practical choice of colour. One man has half a pig on his shoulders while another holds a leg in his left hand. The animal carcasses look heavy and they are both struggling under their weight. There is much more meat to be offloaded from the truck and the men queue up to take their turn and remove them for sale inside the market building. Besides historical Chinese and Portuguese world-heritage relics, Macau's biggest attraction is its gaming business. Its gambling revenue in 2006 weighed in at a massive £3.6bn - about £100m more than Las Vegas. Administered by Portugal until 1999, it was the oldest European colony in China, dating back to the 16th century. The administrative power over Macau was transferred to the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1999, 2 years after Hong Kong's own handover. Macau's name is derived from A-Ma-Gau or Place of A-Ma and this temple dedicated to the seafarers' goddess dates from the early 16th century.

  • A young deer lies dead beside a busy highway on a road near Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Washington State. Very recently run-over but seemingly unharmed, this animal has head injuries and died immediately from a collision with a passing vehicle, such as this heavy articulated lorry which blurrs past this location. This is forested area and the deer's natural habitat but too often wildlife in its natural surroundings violently meets the modern human environment and the animal comes of worst. As a result of the death, the roadkill was taken by members of a US Air Force survival course at their nearby facility and so it formed an unscheduled extra lesson in preparing venison for the pot that night (see Corbis image entitled 'US Air Force survival instructors with recent roadkill').

  • Stripped of their feathers, plucked ducks await the next stage during a family Foie Gras business in French Alsace. The Kessler family live on a farm in the quiet village of Boofzheim in Alsace, France. Their business is producing Foie Gras and they raise force-fed ducks near the German border region. The youngest member is daughter Mireille wearing a blood-stained apron. She has cut the throat of a duck, draining the body and especially the liver of blood. After tapping the head with a knife to render the animal unconscious, she stands in a pool of blood from other birds which stains the courtyard floor. On the left, her parents and grandmother are plucking the feathers from newly-killed carcasses which are strung up on a special rack for this purpose. France produces and consumes the most Foie Gras in Europe using the French Gavage method of forcing ducks or geese to consume vast quatities of corn mash down the esophagus two weeks before slaughter.

These tough-looking men host visiting air crew whose flying careers depend on passing this rigorous week of escape and evasion instruction. • Displayed in the window of a traditional Chinese medicine shop in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, are the labels and plastic bags containing some of the 500 Chinese herbs that are in use today in Eastern herbal remedies, of which 250 or so are very commonly used in the treatment of ailments and diseases. Rather than being prescribed individually, single herbs are combined into formulas designed to adapt to specific needs of individual patients. Herbal formulas contain from 3 to 25 herbs or animal parts, some sourced from endangered species. As with diet therapy, each herb has one or more of the five flavours/functions and one of five "temperatures" ("Qi") (hot, warm, neutral, cool, cold). After the herbalist determines the energetic temperature and functional state of the patient's body, they prescribe a mixture of herbs tailored to balance disharmony.

  • We are looking down from above to office and business workers who are lying down and relaxing in the grass in their lunch break at Finsbury Circus, a circular green park space in the heart of London's financial district, the City of London. Surrounding them is an art instillation of steel sheep that are incongruously grazing among the assorted people, much like they once did when London was a home to livestock en-route to market and other animals used for transport. It is a warm afternoon and in the foreground, a man wearing a dark suit has taken off his polished shoes and is lying his head on his jacket in the warm afternoon, loosening his tight tie and stretching his neck. Elsewhere, a lady is sitting eating a packed lunch with the Sun newspaper and a man a little further behind is in jeans and plimsoll shoes. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.

  • A lady and her pet green Iguanas stop walking along the surf in Miami Beach's coast for a moment to stand on the sand and kiss on the lips. Away from its proper habitat, this reptile looks comfortable in the hands of its affectionate mothering owner and in this warm climate. These exotic lizards' live in tropical rainforests, in lower altitudes near water sources, such as rivers or streams. They spend most of their time high in the forest canopy, about 40-50 feet above the ground. Iguanas are diurnal, awake during the day. They are also cold-blooded, so they do not produce their own body heat, so need warm temperatures to thrive. Many people in the United States and elsewhere want a green iguana for a pet, so there is a big demand for their capture.
