  • Three dads are looking their respective children of varying ages - from a baby to an infant and 8-year old. In the foreground a father reads his tabloid newspaper as his toddler sleeps contentedly in its pushchair, a dummy in the mouth and a blanket scross its body to keep out a chilly breeze. Further back another man stands waiting for his partner with a baby, also asleep in the buggy. And thirdly, a male pushes his daughter in pink up a small slope on a bicycle that uses stablizers. It is a busy scene on Paignton seafront on the Devon coast. Elsewhere children and adults of all ages walk along the esplanade enjoying an overcast and windy day on holiday. This theatrical scene is about the ideal father and the family unit.

  • Elderly ladies wave union jack flags and enjoy an afternoon of nostalgia in their local east end pub in east London, remembering the 50th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day on 6th May 1995. In the week near the anniversary date of May 8, 1945, when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Germany and peace was announced to tumultuous crowds across European cities, the British still go out of their way to honour those sacrificed and the realisation that peace was once again achieved. Street parties now - as they did in 1945 - played a large part in the country's patriotic well-being.

  • As if separated by many decades, we see an older generation beach guard from a bygone era and a much younger lifeguard, both resting on the seafront of the posh Essex seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea, England. If simply comparing the colour schemes of the past, to the modern day, we might guess that in the gentleman on the right's day, people wore more formal blues, with collar and tie and polished shoes on the hottest day - reminiscent of Victorian times when pomp and tradition rather than practicalities were important . Nowadays, complimentary reds and yellows adorn the uniform of the lad trained in water injuries and life-saving. He is barefoot and sits comfortably against the sea defence wall in peak cap and t-shirt. This is a scene describing the generation gap, of youth versus experience - the classic English seaside holiday.

  • A brother and sister run through the back garden of their South London home. We see the younger sibling - a boy of three leading his big sister by the hand in some sort of follow-my-leader game. He pulls hard to tow the girl along who wears Wellington boots that are too large for her and they both hold out their arms for stability. • Seen from a low angle, we see a big sister turning around to see what her younger brother is up to as they sit back-to-back in a park in London, England. The boy is actually playing with the girl's toy windmill, turning its sails proving a fun way of passing part of a summer's afternoon in this inner-city park. His sister is unimpressed however and she is about to snatch her own property back - not because she needs it, but simply because it is hers. These siblings are having to learn sharing each other's things and as a five and three year-old are finding out, it's a hard lesson. • A two and half year-old girl looks over her shoulder to eye her young baby brother suspiciously while he plays on the floor with a play mobile toy. It is bright from window light that shines down on the floor of their South London home where the two siblings play. Her brother is learning to lie on his front, using developing muscles in his neck and back to hold his head up towards a dangling toy. His sister enjoys having her own space and considers her innocent brother to be a little too close for her own comfort. • A two and half year-old girl meets her sleeping baby brother for the first time on his actual birthday. In the maternity ward at Kings College Hospital, Camberwell, London, the child reaches out with the maternal instincts of her gender to touch the fragile infant who is wrapped up in an NHS blanket in a cot that was wheeled directly from the birthing room a few hours beforehand. The baby boy is oblivious to his sister's affection and attention but he is healthy and already thriving before waking up for his first feeds. • Two women walk past the Charles Tyrwhitt menswear outfitters in Eldon Street in the City of London, the capital's heart of its financial district and a good location for suits and businesswear. A pair of Englishmen raise their bowler hats in a gesture from a previous era, when hats said much of your social standing, a summary of your position in the class system. In the 21st century though, the hat is largely an item of clothing to wear only for extreme cold or heat. A leggy girl strides past the shop frontage, seemingly curious of this bygone gentlemanly tradition.
