The 'Levada dos Pionais' makes its way through low, short caves in the cliff face andalong the top of the Socorridos valley near Lombada, on 22nd April 2024, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. 'Levadas' are waterway aquaduct irrigation systems unique to the Portuguese island of Madeira, stretching from town to town, delivering a highly-efficient irrigation supply to remote and urban communities, some created in the 16th century, the Levada Pionais dates from 1953.
