A spectator at the Royal Windsor horse trials, sita on the grass with her pet whippet dog, between competitors as they gallop across country in this west London space near Windsor Castle. The dog stretches out with tail wagging, its owners sat with an open competition listing. Alongside, an elderly lady rests on a shooting seat. Whippets in the UK are a medium-size dog averaging in weight from 15 to 30 lb (6.8-14 kg), with height (under the FCI standard) of 18.5 - 20 inches (47 - 51 cm) for males and 17.5-18.5 inches (44-47 cm) for females. Whippets are generally quiet and gentle dogs, and may be content to spend much of the day resting. After a chance to run about and let off steam, they are happy to become couch-potatoes. They are loyal and friendly. Because of this, whippets are known to have been used in aged care facilities.
