The 'Levada dos Pionais' makes its way along the top of the valley near Lombada, on 22nd April 2024, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. 'Levadas' are waterway aquaduct iirrigation systems unique to the Portuguese island of Madeira, stretching from town to town, delivering a highly-efficient irrigation supply to remote and urban communities, some created in the 16th century, the Levada Pionais dates from 1953.
