I don’t know why - nor for what greater metaphysical reason - but I keep noticing pink childrens’ items (and otherwise) that have been dropped in the street, carefully placed to be noticed for when their clumsy owners return.

But what distress has the child been in, the hours or days after the article has been lost? And how often do they ever come back and discover their missing glove or shoe, waiting to be seen and taken back home after damp nights outside?
