  • As bright sunlight fills a bare studio room, and a wooden cross is propped up in the corner, Paula Douthett (left) and three other members of the evangelical Sacred Dance Ministry (Group) perform a moment from the biblical nativity scene in her house at Milbourne St Andrew, Dorset, England. Together they are acting as part of the International Christian Dance Fellowship whose performers include performers, choreographers and teachers of all styles of dance technique, as well as those who dance in worship, intercession, healing, evangelism and prophetic interpretation. In the middle, a lady pretends to be holding the baby Jesus while the others play the roles of angels as they express wonder and admiration for this miraculous moment.

  • Banner-carrying Catholic pilgrims awaits arrival of Pope at Hyde Park rally during Pope Benedict XVI's papal tour of Britain 2010, the first visit by a pontiff since 1982. Taxpayers footed the £10m bill for non-religious elements, which largely angered a nation still reeling from the financial crisis. Pope Benedict XVI is the head of the biggest Christian denomination in the world, some one billion Roman Catholics, or one in six people. In Britain there are about five million Catholics but only a quarter of Catholics regularly attend Sunday Mass and some churches have closed owing to spending cuts.

  • A Christian crucifix stands encased in a wooden box that has been attached to a panelled wall in Quebec, Canada. The image is white except for the Jesus icon itself and coloured lights which glow on this dark afternoon in the depths of Winter. The religious shrine consists of the human effigy standing a plinth next to faded dried flowers. On the left side are six wheel hubs also fixed to a wire fence that borders this person's property. Their decorative design suggests the Canadian owner likes driving sports or utility vehicles but who is also a worshipper of the Christian faith and believer in idols. Canada's 2001 Census showed, 72% of the Canadian population listed Roman Catholicism or Protestantism as their religion. The Roman Catholic Church in Canada is by far the country's largest single denomination.

  • Seen through a junk shop window in north London, the large letters Last Day have been painted in white emulsion paint on the pane of glass. Between the letters are figures and bric-a-brac on sale in this budget store. A tiger model; a Jesus figure; a doll in a green dress. 'Last Day' is also ironic in a Biblical context as it was taken a few days after the Day of Resurrection and Easter.

  • St Ernan's church, Fionnphort, Isle of Mull, Scotland. During the 1890s it was decided by the church on Iona that a Mission Chapel should be built at Creich in the Ross of Mull and dedicated to St Erana. Ernan, formerly Prince of Donegal, was uncle to St Columba and one of a group of twelve followers who came with Columba to Iona to set up and manage the Iona Monastery. Through the efforts of the then parish minister, the Rev. Archibald MacMillan (his gravestone is in the church yard), money was raised to build the church. Plans of the church were approved by Presbytery in 1897 and a site chosen to benefit the community. It lies a mile outside Fionnphort, beside the A847 which connects with Bunessan and Craignure and above Loch Poit-na-h-I. http://www.mull-historical-society.co.uk/places-of-worship/bunessan/creich-church.htm
