Farnborough 2022: Best
29 images Created 21 Jul 2022
Ironically coinciding with the UK's highest recorded temperature: 40.3C - a week when the effects of climate change; an inflationary economy; the Tory party leadership debate - not-to-mention the ongoing war in Ukraine - the economic and political climate never seemed so irrelevant.
I’ve been coming to Farnborough since 1989 when there were still Soviet Mig fighters carrying Communist stars on their tails. One year at the show I got a call from my agency to tell me that Concorde had crashed in Paris. What a shock on the faces around me when their phones rang too! I left the show for Heathrow - to be at the crash site a few hours later. Memorable!
This time there were no Russians and Chinese exhibitors but many Koreans and Turks who, given the size of their hospitality chalet, seem to be doing very well out of the war in Ukraine and their armed drones are the same hitting Russian tank columns.
After their two 737 Max accidents, Boeing were on a charm offensive, out to win corporate hearts and minds again.
The pictures I take here aren’t always as oblique as those posted here. I do heads of top execs too but often leave for the bus station before the flying displays start.
Been there, done that, if you know what I’m getting at?
