  • The circus animal trainer leads two of his elephant friends one morning after a Gerry Cottle show the night before. Riding a bicycle across a field in London, he leads one beast, its trunk holding his white stick while another follows behind. Peters is topless, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and bright blue trousers. Marcel Peters is a circus animal trainer who has worked in the ring for many years, starting with Billy Smart's Circus and working with Polar bears, tigers, lions and elephants. Gerry Cottle sold his elephants and Peters moved with them to the Spanish Circus Mundial. His real name is Marcel Peter Hodge.

Reflected in a glass panel is a lady cyclist many times more her actual size than the car next to her in the road and pedestrians waling on pavements. The trick of scale is seen in this TFL campaign for more, safer cycling in the capital which has traditionally been a city for the driver, rathern than for those eager to beat the jams on two wheels.

  • Londoners experience the unexpected intensity of localised solar rays, reflected off the concave plate glass windows of one of the capital's newest skyscrapers known as the Walkie-talkie. The hotspot has surprised developers and passers-by below and which has already melted a parked car and left soft street fittings smouldering in Eastcheap Street, City of London, the capital's financial district. One thermometer placed in the street reached 144F (62 celsius) and others off the scale and city workers poured out of their offices at lunchtime to witness the strange phenomena of intense, Biblical light and blistering heat.

Southwark Council’s development partner, Lendlease is regenerating over 28 acres across three sites at the heart of Elephant & Castle, in what is the latest major regeneration opportunity in zone 1 London. The vision for the £1.5 billion regeneration is to build on the area’s strengths and vibrant character in order to re-establish Elephant & Castle as one of London’s most flourishing urban quarters. The Elephant & Castle regeneration is of a scale rarely seen in central London and includes almost 3,000 new homes, plus office, retail, community, leisure and restaurant space.

  • On a street in Macau (also Macao) in the Chinese Special Economic Region (SER), we see the tall stack of cardboard on the back of a bicycle. Its partly-obscured rider and owner has one foot placed on the bike's pedal while his right arm has firm hold of the pile of materials to prevent it from toppling over. In the background we see the signs of many local businesses, their Chinese characters seen clearly on the sides of buildings as pedestrians walk on the pavements. Administered by Portugal until 1999, Macau was the oldest European colony in China, dating back to the 16th century. The administrative power over Macau was transferred to the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1999, 2 years after Hong Kong's own handover. Macau's name is derived from A-Ma-Gau or Place of A-Ma

This is Lombard Street, originally a piece of land granted by King Edward I to goldsmiths from the part of northern Italy known as Lombardy (larger than the modern region of Lombardy). It is a narrow and usually dark sidestreet near the Bank of England in the heart of what is called the Square Mile - the inner-part and oldest quarter of London occupied first by the Romans 2,000 years ago. Nowadays the City of London is home to banks and financial institutions but also with a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000.

  • Cyclist descends footpath suffering from erosion beneath Stanage Edge gritstone cliffs, Peak District National Park, Derbyshire..Located in the Peak District National Park in England Stanage Edge is the largest of the gritstone edges that overlook Hathersage in Derbyshire. Stanage Edge at approximately 4 miles in length and 458m at its highest point is the largest of the gritstone cliffs that overlook Hathersage, Derbyshire. The area is one of the most popular locations in the Peak District National Park for climbing and walking with hundreds of rock climbing routes to challenge all ranges of ability. Walkers are drawn to the area to enjoy the varied moorland scenery with stunning views across the surrounding countryside including Hathersage, Castleton and the 'Shivering Mountain', Mam Tor in the west. A walk along the edge is an easy route but the exposed cliff can make conditions difficult throughout the year as it is often battered by wind, rain and regular snowfall in the winter months. There are a number of popular walks including routes along the remains of a Roman Road and towards Redmires Reservoir to the east as well as longer walks such as those including the nearby Longshaw Estate. • Looking downwards from a high vantage point on a hillside, we see one mountain-biker leading a second cyclist as they traverse across a sunlit mountainside near the hamlet of Masecha in the parish of Triesenberg, Liechtenstein. The late afternoon sun is low across the valley and there is a haze that partly obscures and refracts light over the distant landscape. There is snow on the distant mountain peaks but the countryside has the brown look of a snowless winter. Far off villages and hamlets hug the hillsides and golden light floods the scene. The tiny landlocked Principality of Liechtenstein is bordered by the Alpine countries of Austria and Switzerland and is a winter sports resort, though best known as a tax haven, attracting companies worldwide to register their assets in secrecy. .

  • Children play near a puddle in the town of Nova Huta. In filthy industrial streets, the kids look undernourished in this scene of impoverished, Communist dereliction. It is horribly depressing and unhealthy place to grow up and these children are pale and yet seem happy, with smiles on their faces. The famous steel works can be seen reflected in the puddle before them. After the war, Stalin decided to build an industrial Communist fantasy just outside Krakow: a model town and immense steelworks of the future. The steelworks was named after Lenin and the town would be called Nowa Huta - or, the new steel mill. At its peak, 27,000 people worked at the Lenin Steelworks. But Solidarity grew strong forcing strikes over pay and recognition over their union. Today, it is an economic and ecological disaster area..

  • A young boy edges through a gap between some railings and the end of a fallen tree trunk that has fallen across a footpath. The child is on his way to nursery school and the night before strong winds brought down trees in the south London area and cause disruption to transport infrastructure. It is an adventure for this child who isn't bothered in the slightest at this minor inconvenience to his journey, a route he takes with his mother or father every morning. Pushing his bike first, he takes care not to hurt himself on the jagged timber

  • In a field at the town of Boofzheim in the eastern French Alsace region, an elderly Frenchman harvests some of his self-grown carrots crop. Having left his old bicycle standing at the kerb of a narrow access road and in front of a field full of maturing maize, he bends down with much effort to dig in his fork or spade into the rich Alsace earth and lift out his vegetables to take home. This landscape is typically French or German (Alsace borders the western side of Germany and saw much tragic action in WW2) where maize is a nutritious foodstuff for cattle and also for ducks and geese who are force-fed it locally in the making of fois gras and pate.

  • An eccentric middle-aged man rests his legs on his bicycle while -open mouthed and snoring - snatches forty winks on a striped deck chair in London's Hyde Park, England. We look down on the grass which is still green and lush on this summer's day in the heart of the city. He is wearing a flat cap with trousers (pants) tucked in his socks for his next bicycle journey. He is a quintissentially English sunbather enjoying a quiet snooze in a public park open space.

  • A bemused passer-by walks past a strange sight in Wardour Street, Central London, England UK. Even for London where bizarre events take place, this strange scene attracts attention from strangers such as this mountain bike that has been attached to the top of a parking notice pole, locked in place by a D-lock - a crime prevention measure to thwart any determined bike thief, of which there are many in the city. Cycling in London is increasing by 80% every year but 52 bikes are stolen with nearly 440,000 reported stolen a year.

  • A bicycle has been locked high up on a City of London street sign post where arrows point up and down, the coincidence of a visual pun - in the heart of the capital's financial district.
