Best of 2022

73 images Created 2 Dec 2022

Ignoring for the first time since the pandemic, the symbolism of Covid has not figured at all in my best pictures from 2022.

What has dominated my year - and despite it only lasting ten days - was the death of Queen Elizabeth and the prolonged mourning protocol codenamed by officials as "London Bridge Is Down"."

Before that, her Platinum Jubilee celebrations brought royalists on to the streets though within weeks, a million were gathering for her funeral and to queue along the Thames, 24hrs a day and night.

There have been 'Just Stop Oil' paint protests, sprayed across businesses and government buildings; barrister and rail strikes; Ukrainian patriotism and the reigniting of money laundering in what is dubbed 'Londongrad'; yet another heatwave, when our green and pleasant pastures turned brown - plus street scenes that have struck chords in my larger repertoire.

6,600 images were uploaded this year and many, many more culled on the executioner's chopping block.
